Charity care assessments coming from DOH

Hospitals are assessed annually by the Department of Health to fund data collection and reporting on statewide hospital charity care. A group of hospitals will receive a bill this week which is due on October 2, 2017. Amounts are calculated using each hospital’s reported gross operating expenses for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016.  This year’s assessment rate is 0.0007 percent of total operating expenses. The payment process is changing this year and hospitals are being billed directly rather than having payments made through WSHA.
