The third Thursday of November is National Rural Health Day. Sponsored by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, this is a day to “celebrate the power of rural” by honoring those working tirelessly to address the unique challenges of rural communities to promote better health and wellbeing. Happy Rural Health Day to our rural hospitals and their hardworking teams!
Every year one of the ways that WSHA honors rural hospitals is through its Rural Quality Everyday Extraordinary Award. Our rural members demonstrate exceptional resourcefulness, teamwork and creativity when tackling quality improvement aims. We invite eligible facilities to apply for this award and be recognized for efforts that often go unnoticed. Applications should demonstrate successful implementation of strategies that have produced performance improvement related to patient safety. This may include, but is not limited to, improving access to care, reducing adverse events, addressing root causes of safety events, implementing new strategies and managing population health.
All rural WSHA member hospitals and health systems are invited to participate. Multiple applications from the same organization will be accepted. Applications are due April 1, 2023, and a winner will be announced at the WSHA Leadership Summit in June 2023 in Chelan. For more information or to apply, please visit the Rural Quality Award Program dashboard. Contact Megan Herman at meganh@wsha.org if you have any questions.
