Happy Antibiotic Awareness Week! This week our nation is taking the time to highlight the urgency of antibiotic resistance. WSHA is joining other health care organizations in collectively acknowledging our role in appropriate use of antibiotics and the desired decrease of resistant super-bugs. There are a variety of ways your hospital can engage in Antibiotic Awareness Week!
Use and share Be Antibiotics Aware educational materials, including graphics for print and social media from CDC’s national educational effort. And be sure to review the CDC’s recent report on Antibiotic Resistance, which lists 18 bacteria and fungi based on level of concern to human health. The CDC also has a new Antibiotic Resistance & Patient Safety Portal where you can find new 2017 U.S. outpatient antibiotic prescription data and 2018 U.S. hospital uptake of CDC’s Core Elements of Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Programs data. WSHA is also available to provide support in continued progress in antimicrobial stewardship efforts. If you are interested in partnering with us or learning more, please contact Meg Kilcup.
