The Health Care Authority (HCA) has begun the application process for the SFY 2017 Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program for hospitals other than those participating in the Certified Public Expenditures program. Hospitals applying for DSH funding must submit an initial application to HCA by August 1, 2016 to continue to be considered for 2017 DSH funds. Hospitals submitting incomplete applications will be notified by HCA of any missing items and will have until October 31, 2016 to submit the remaining information.
The SFY 2017 DSH application and other DSH information is available here.
Additionally, HCA advised that most hospitals, even if they do not receive low income or small rural DSH, are still required to participate in the federally mandated independent DSH audit process performed annually by Myers and Stauffer. This is because the state also uses some DSH funds as part of its claims-based Medicaid payment.
The DSH application and supporting documentation should be sent electronically to Mary O’Hare at the Healthcare Authority at mary.ohare@hca.wa.gov. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org).
