A study done by the National Institute of Drug Abuse indicated that 62 percent of teens who have taken prescription medication for no medical reasons said they did so because they had easy access to them in their parent’s medicine cabinets. With the current opioid crisis, disposing of old medications is especially important, as it can help young adults keep from going down the road to addiction.
DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day — this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 22 — aims to decrease the likelihood of the above by providing a safe and convenient means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the community about the potential for medication abuse.
