Re:     2010 Policy/Advocacy Documents

Below for your information are links to the 2010 policy/advocacy documents. You can choose to view/print the entire packet or individual sections using the links below:

These documents are designed to help you support and participate in the Washington State Hospital Association's (WSHA's) efforts to convince Washington State officials to support WSHA's goals, objectives, and priorities. The documents also identify issues of importance to the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts (AWPHD).  During 2010, the documents will be revised as needed.

The 2010 Policy/Advocacy Agenda identifies WSHA's strategic goals, the top priority and other priority issues, the issues that need to be monitored, and the agency/organization assignments.  The Policy Priorities summarizes WSHA's most important policy objectives for the 2010 session of the Washington State Legislature.  The Budget Priorities identifies our major recommendations for the 2009 to 2011 state budget.  The 2010 Policy/Advocacy Issue Briefs summarize the objectives, background, and WSHA's position on nine top priority issues.

During the 2010 legislative session, we will continue the weekly e-mail publication, Inside Olympia, to update interested persons on the most recent information coming from the Washington State Capitol.  If you do not already receive Inside Olympia, please send your e-mail address to Jo Chavira, Policy/Advocacy Coordinator, at joc@wsha.org.

Through the Public Policy Committee, the Public Policy Advisory Group, the Regional Hospital Councils, the Rural Hospital Committee, and the Hospital Governing Boards Committee, we hope to continue increasing WSHA/AWPHD member involvement in the policy development and advocacy process.  The Policy/Advocacy Team will work with members to address their top priorities through frequent communications, active participation at regional hospital council meetings, and presentations to hospital trustees, commissioners, and management teams.

We look forward to the 2010 session of the Washington State Legislature and encourage you to contact us should you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.  Simply locate the state issue of interest to you on the agenda, identify the lead policy staff for that issue, and use the roster to contact the appropriate staff member.  If you cannot identify or reach him/her, contact Jo Chavira.  We strongly encourage your participation, and we will do our best to serve you well in 2010.

Also for your review are information sheets from the Health Work Force Institute and WSHA's Patient Safety Program.
