This year’s American Hospital Association (AHA) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. is Sunday, May 6 through Wednesday, May 9, 2012.  This is a great opportunity to network with your colleagues and hear many national health care experts.  With a number of federal issues on the horizon for hospitals and health systems, including tough budget decisions, this is also an opportunity to communicate our priorities to our elected Congressional officials.  As a presidential election year, the stakes are especially high in 2012, and speaking with one voice is very important.

WSHA events.  Each year, the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) hosts a member dinner and a member briefing meeting, and schedules Congressional visits.  This year’s member dinner is scheduled for Monday, May 7.  To prepare for the visits with our Congressional delegation, the member briefing will take place on Tuesday, May 8.

The visits to Capitol Hill will be Wednesday, May 9 (and perhaps late afternoon on Tuesday May 8).  Please make arrangements to return home from the AHA meeting no earlier than 5 pm on Wednesday, May 9, leaving ample time to meet with members of Congress.  WSHA will coordinate and schedule meetings with each Congressional member’s office.  WSHA encourages you to participate in our meetings with legislators, so their offices are not overloaded with individual requests. 

WSHA does not have the resources to arrange outside meetings for you with Congressional members.  If you arrange your own private meeting(s), please do not schedule them for Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday to avoid potential conflicts with WSHA’s meetings.

Let us know if you’re attending.  Please contact Jean Engler at or (206) 216-2539 by Friday, March 23, if you plan to attend the AHA Annual Meeting.  We also need to know the names of your spouse, children, or other guest(s) that will attend the Monday dinner.

Material packets.  Prior to traveling to the Annual Meeting, each attendee will receive a packet of information with more information about these events.

AHA meeting registration.  Registration and a schedule of events are now available for the Annual Meeting.

Hotel options.  The AHA Annual Meeting takes place at the Washington Hilton at 1919 Connecticut Avenue NW.  Reduced room rates at the Hilton are available through AHA's registration web site.  The Churchill Hotel, across the street from the Hilton, and the Normandy Hotel, about a block away, offer more affordable options.  We encourage you to book your hotel early, as room availability is already limited.
