Webinars address distributing opioid overdose reversal medication and mental health advance directives

November 5, 2021

As the year is winding down, there are two upcoming learning opportunities addressing laws passed in 2021. The first is the webinar Distributing Opioid Overdose Reversal Medication in Emergency Department and Behavioral Health Settings: Overview of New Requirements, Implementation Guidance, and Overdose Prevention Best Practices for Hospitals, from 12-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. The other event is Mental Health Advance Directives: Changes to State Law and Implementation of Best Practices, from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The first webinar will provide information and guidance for hospitals on implementing 2SSB 5195, which requires hospital emergency departments and many behavioral health settings to dispense or distribute opioid overdose reversal medication to patient’s at risk of an opioid overdose. For more information on the new requirements, see WSHA’s Bulletin on this topic.

In the second webinar, WSHA speakers will review changes to the Washington State mental health advance directives law, as well as discuss the role of mental health advance directives as a care planning tool in hospital settings.  For more information on the law changes, see WSHA’s Bulletin.
