An insurance trust is designed to allow small to mid-size employers pool resources to drive the creation of unique ancillary employee benefits to their employees at better-than-market terms. Trusts can represent several participating employers and thousands of members, giving them the ability to negotiate more favorable terms with the insurance industry than a single employer with far fewer participants. Trusts build unique features into product offerings, pricing, product features and return of excess premium in some products.
WHIT is a Hospital and Healthcare industry-specific trust designed to directly benefit participating members. The internal structure of WHIT allows the trustees to invest trust assets back into the plans of participating employers as needed so products carry longer rate guarantees, enhanced benefits or subsidize premium rates to deliver longer term rate stability across all products offered. WHIT offers its members primarily ancillary product lines: dental, vision, long-term disability, array of voluntary products and EAP.
