Madigan doctor named top physician
For the second year running, a Madigan Army Medical Center doctor earned the honor of being named the Military Health System Junior Army Female Physician Leadership Award.

More hospitals are ditching antibiotics in the meat they serve
Concern about the livestock industry’s overuse of antibiotics has led a number of health care institutions to start choosing meat from animals raised without antibiotics whenever they can. Overlake Medical Center has gone antibiotic free 79% of the time.

Multicare launches new virtual care service
MultiCare Health System is furthering its investment in virtual care with the launch of a new online diagnosis and treatment service for common health conditions. It will connect patients to clinicians via email or text.

Providence proposes first in-patient hospice care center in Thurston County
Providence Health & Services wants to build the 20-bed facility in the 4800 block of College Street near the organization’s chemical dependency center in Lacey. If all goes to plan, the hospice project would break ground in 2017 and open by summer 2018.

PeaceHealth therapy program music to premature babies’ ears
PeaceHealth Southwest is using music therapy in the NICU to help with pain management, facilitate feeding and stabilize vital signs, such as heart rate and respirations. The therapy is also beneficial to families who are dealing with daily NICU stresses.

State designates Whidbey General Hospital as a Level 3 Trauma Center
The state Department of Health recently notified the hospital it is a Level Three Trauma Center. That means Whidbey General has demonstrated the ability to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization.
