Payment reductions and new coding requirements for 340B hospitals go into effect January 1. CMS provides set of FAQs.

December 20, 2017

Unless prevented by Congressional action or a successful lawsuit in the next few weeks, the payment cuts for Medicare 340B drugs in the final Medicare outpatient rule will go into effect January 1, 2018.   340B hospitals, except for critical access hospitals, are required to bill special modifiers for 340B drugs, regardless of whether they are subject to the payment reduction during 2018. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has provided a set of Frequently Asked Questions to provide specific guidance on these billing requirements. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
