The Opioid epidemic: Making a difference one pill at a time

April 19, 2017

cordant-health-solutions-logoWashington Hospital Services Industry Partner Cordant Health Solutions launched a free drug take-back program in 2016, which they developed to support Washington communities in addressing the opioid crisis. Recognizing the merit of the program, Cordant decided to make it a standard offering in all the states in which it does business.

In less than a year, the program has led to the destruction of 53 pounds (more than 48,000 tablets) of unused medications. We are happy to report that approximately 26 percent (more than 12,700) of those tablets were recovered and destroyed in our state alone. Cordant has issued a press release about the success of their program that can be found here.

Also, National Drug Take-Back Day is April 29, which is an important opportunity to appropriately dispose of unwanted prescription medications. More information on Washington State take-back locations can be found here. (Paul Unsworth)
