Despite the end of the regular legislative session, work continues on legislation regarding balance billing of patients that receive services from a provider not contracted with their health plan. HB 2114 earlier passed the House but was not voted by the full Senate.
A group of legislators has continued working on the bill and prepared a striking amendment to replace the earlier bill. The striking amendment includes both improvements and provisions that are of significant concern, particularly regarding notification of provider’s contracted status. At this time it is unclear if there is sufficient consensus among legislators for the bill to progress during the current special session or if the work would carry over into the interim. WSHA will continue to communicate to legislators our concerns regarding the current proposals. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org )
