Join the AHRQ Safety Program for MRSA Prevention

September 13, 2022

AHRQ’s Safety Program for MRSA Prevention is recruiting hospital-based surgical teams to reduce surgical site infections, including methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. This is a free 18-month program that is recruiting teams from the following specialties or procedures:

  • Cardiac (cardiac valve replacement, coronary bypass graft, and surgeries that involve a median sternotomy)
  • Neurosurgical (spinal fusion)
  • Orthopedic (hip and knee joint replacement and spinal fusion)

The program begins in January 2023 and provides participants with implementation strategies focused on the attitudes, beliefs, culture and barriers that can interfere with infection prevention practices. Topics covered include chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) treatment (bathing), decolonization, MRSA surveillance, antimicrobial prophylaxis, improvement of hand antisepsis and hand hygiene, and implementation of evidence-based infection prevention bundles. Participation in this AHRQ program will provide your surgical services with technical assistance, coaching, webinars and tools to support their infection prevention program.
