Leader of Kirkland-based health system focuses on improving care across the state

Bob Malte photo 2017EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte has been elected board chair of the Washington State Hospital Association. As chair, Malte will preside over the Board of Trustees and help lead the hospital association’s work for the coming year.

“Bob has long been involved as a leader with WSHA, and he has served as a trustee for the last seven years. We’re delighted to welcome him to the position of board chair,” said Cassie Sauer, WSHA president & CEO. “Bob brings a passion for improving the way care is delivered, and he is committed to making the delivery of health care safer for all our residents and affecting policy changes that will foster healthier communities.”

The Washington State Hospital Association is the membership association of all 107 hospitals in Washington state. The association takes a major leadership role in issues that affect delivery, quality, accessibility, affordability and continuity of health care in both the policy and the clinical arenas. It works to improve the health status of all residents.

In his speech to the WSHA membership at the 2017 Annual Meeting, Malte addressed health care challenges and the important work ahead, including safety, health access equity and shaping health policy.

“We have many issues to face now and in the years before us,” Malte said at the WSHA Annual Meeting. “But, we also have many things to be proud of. On any given day, thousands of Washingtonians have their lives saved, lives started and lives enhanced because of the care we provide.”

Bob Malte is the chief executive officer of EvergreenHealth, in Kirkland, Wash., and is responsible for the leadership of all aspects of EvergreenHealth’s operations.

Prior to joining EvergreenHealth in 2010, Malte was president and CEO at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo. For 13 years prior to Exempla, he held several senior leadership roles at ThedaCare in Appleton, Wis. Bob has a strong commitment to community service, serving on the Washington State Hospital Association Board, the First Choice Health Board, the Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce Board and the President’s Advisory Council at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. He also serves as a member of the University of Washington’s MHA Program Advisory Committee. In Colorado, he served on the Colorado Hospital Association Board and the YMCA of Denver Metro Board, as well as a number of other organizations.

A Chicago native, Malte earned a Master of Business Administration at The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1982 and bachelor’s degree in economics at Ripon College in Wisconsin.
