Hospitals have until January 2 to correct the data on Worksheet S-10 of the Medicare cost report. This information will be used for calculation of disproportionate share hospital payments beginning federal fiscal year 2019. CMS has provided an extension to enable hospitals to ensure the information used for the calculations is correct. Based on current cost report submission, the transition to the S-10 worksheet for DSH payments will result in a 16.2% decrease in payments from 2018 to 2019 ($15 million), and a 34.1% decrease from 2018 to 2020 ($31 million). Among the 50 states, Washington is expected to see the 12th largest percentage decrease in 2019 and the 9th largest decrease in 2020.
On Tuesday, WSHA sent copies of the S-10 Uncompensated Care Distribution Analysis for each hospital to the Chief Financial Officer or designated financial contact. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
