Celebrating Washington’s rural hospitals and Rural Quality Award

November 18, 2021

The third Thursday of November is National Rural Health Day. Sponsored by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, this is a day to “celebrate the power of rural” by honoring those working tirelessly to address the unique challenges of rural communities and promote better health and well-being. Happy rural health day to our rural hospitals and their hardworking teams!

Every year one of the ways that WSHA honors rural hospitals is through its Rural Quality Everyday Extraordinary Award. Our rural members often demonstrate exceptional resourcefulness, teamwork and creativity when tackling quality improvement aims. In effort to recognize rural hospitals’ dedication to quality, we invite eligible facilities to apply for this award.

Qualified applications will demonstrate successful implementation of strategies that have produced performance improvement related to patient safety. This may include, but is not limited to, improving access to care, reducing adverse events, addressing root causes of safety events, implementing new strategies and managing population health.

All rural WSHA member hospitals and health systems are invited to participate. Multiple applications from the same organization will be accepted. We will announce submission instructions and applicable deadlines in December. In the meantime, please consider if you have a project you would like to submit and contact Megan Herman, assistant director, Safety & Quality Partnerships, at meganh@wsha.org if you have any questions.
