Can effective antimicrobial stewardship decrease risk for sepsis?

April 18, 2018

A recent study found that there was an increased risk for sepsis within 90 days of discharge among patients with high exposure to high-risk antibiotics or increased quantities of antibiotics during hospitalization. The study adds to the increasing body of evidence suggesting that increased stewardship efforts may not only prevent antimicrobial resistance, clostridium difficile infection and other adverse effects, but also decrease undesired outcomes related to the disruption of microbia, including sepsis.
