Astria Regional Medical Center donates books to community schools

December 5, 2018

Astria Health has teamed up with the Magic of Storytelling Campaign to deliver books to Yakima Valley schools. Earlier this fall, Astria Health donated 500 books to Roosevelt Elementary School. This was the third time Astria Health has worked to encourage reading in children – in total, the hospital system has delivered 1,500 books to Yakima Valley Schools. Previous recipients were Sun Valley Elementary and Kirkwood Elementary.

The Magic of Storytelling Campaign is a project between the non-profit First Book, Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney ABC Television Group. By providing sponsorship for the project, Astria Health has been able to provide reading accessible materials for children to inspire interest and a love of learning.

“There are families within our community that can’t afford to buy books for their children to read at home. Getting books into the hands of children at a young age helps them build a stronger foundation for learning throughout their lives,” said Darrin Cook, Chief Operating Officer of Astria Regional Medical Center. “Astria Health realizes the potential of each child in this community, which is why we are a proud sponsor of The Magic of Storytelling’s efforts to put new books into the hands of local children in our valley.”
